Welcome to the newest catalog on ctlgs! Videogames is brand new, and I’ve started it with some things from my own collection: Ikaruga and Rez on the Dreamcast, and some other Xbox 360 games, and arcade cabinet.
Each entry is one of four things:
Game: the game itself, like Rez.
Release: a specific boxed copy, like the Japanese Dreamcast Rez, with its region, edition, barcodes and serial numbers.
Hardware: consoles, arcade cabinets and boards, including monitor details for cabinets.
Platform and Company.
Nothing here is settled yet, and I’d like your feedback. Is a field missing? Is something hard to enter? Do the regions and editions match what you collect? Tell me here, or start a new topic in this category.
Would this include home computer platforms such as the old ZX 80/81/Spectrum, C64, Amiga, Atari ST, etc? And what about those even older cartridge console systems such as the Atari 2600? Or even older ones like those Radofin consoles which had their games built in to their chips?
Fantastic. That ought to include hand-held electronic games too, as well as things like the Game & Watch and those old Casio watches that had a game built in to them. I used to have a Casio GM-40 watch in the 80s (I think that’s what is was called) featuring a game where you had to catch falling pyramids on a row of four men to build a bigger pyramid. I swapped it with a friend at school for something entirely unmemorable. I was horrified decades later to discover it’s now incredibly rare and worth thousands. Ah well.
I’m a little confused about the difference between Platform and Hardware with this catalog.
Also, images in the list of latest additions on the home pages for the two new catalogs show only broken images.
Never mind that last one; a hard refresh fixed it.
The way I’ve structured this a Platform is the system as a whole, like “Xbox 360” or “Dreamcast”. Hardware is a specific machine model, the kind of thing you own and keep in a collection.
