Welcome back - books

Hi, thanks for visiting!

ctlgs.org is a new independent collecting platform. I have started with books and have loaded the old bookogs database. And if there’s interest I can restore the others as well as start new catalogs.

If you would like me to connect your old contributions or collection to your new account here please PM me.

What’s Different?
I have changed the structure a bit and there are three page types:

  • book - the conceptual book and words contained (like a master release on Discogs)
  • edition - the copy of that book in your hand: hardback, paperback, first pressing, etc
  • credit - a person or company credited to that book or edition (author, publisher, etc)

How to Contribute
On the home page click the “Add Book” button which let’s you add a book and edition at the same time. Add an edition from the book page (near the list of editions). And credits are added via the book/credit edit form.

Please let me know if you have any questions or ideas. And thanks for looking!

Thanks for starting this. I have a few comments. The book page has an entry for author, but not for editor, unless I missed something. You can identify the editor on the edition page. Where do you enter publisher? And the chapter field does not seem to have a way of adding chapters or line breaks other than as a long text string, so chapters have to be added to the notes.

NOTE: I edited a book that seemed to have a formatted table of contents in the Chapters section. As soon as I did it (without even touching the chapters), the contents collapsed into a single text string, so I had to move the contents to the notes.

Is the purpose of the site to act as a general reference; or, will it be similar to discogs, in that it will provide collectors a way to track their collections?

Early days. Give them time.

Ok I have fixed that. The chapters field is now a multiline field.

Yes it will be similar to Discogs with collection/wantlist management.

That would be fantastic. Do you also think about a marketplace or only an online “book collection” platform?

I think it’s inevitable there will be a marketplace. once there’s enough data and interest. But my focus for now is on the data

It is nice to see that you are taking another stab at this concept and that the old Bibliogs / Bookogs data did not go to waste. I hope we get to see if this new site can take off with the right amount of support and TLC. I’m not likely to participate this time around (my life has become quite a bit busier since the early days of Bookogs) but I will be hoping for the project’s success. Best wishes!

Can you do that for Profile on the credits pages? If line breaks are present, it collapses. I was trying to fix the broken links on 87th Precinct - Books - ctlgs , but the list of titles someone had posted collapsed.

Ok, Profile field on a Credit is now a multiline field. Let me know if you need any more improvements with that.
