Hello, I understand when creating a book, it is also with the creation of an edition. Quite normal for a book. But is it possible to create ONLY an edition like for example a periodical magazine ? I tried to leave it blank, but it is forced to have “Book title”. That seems not necessary as it is a periodical issue. Thanks in advance for your help.
I wonder whether it would be better to have a “periodical” item with all the issues of that magazine beneath it? Having a “book” entry for every magazine does seem odd, especially as most won’t have numerous editions.
I agree but maybe it is not possible the way it is managed. The “Book” is like the “Master release”. For now, I would like to have the choice to create a new release in two ways : “Book+Edition” or only “Edition”. I created some Editions when the book was created. But for a magazine, it make no sense to create a book.
Perhaps a periodical should be a similar concept to a Series on discogs. Each issue would be a Book, and their Editions be any regional or other variations of each issue, and grouped under a ‘Series’-a-like. If there is one printing per issue, then you might have to just put up with Edition & Book. I don’t know if that’s too onerous.
Or the periodical is the Book and each issue and its variants be Editions?
That makes sense. I’ve added options to add just an Edition or Book.
In the old Bookogs you had to add each one separate then link them, which seemed clunky. That’s why we have the dual form here as the default option.

Another question : when looking existing magazines, all have a credit “Periodical Issue” with the name of the magazine. I cannot find “Periodical Issue” anywhere when adding a new issue. Please let me know if I missed something.
Ok, I can see the problem. There are a few other credits like Editor in Chief and Graphic Design, that are used in the imported data but not available in the form. I’ll get this fixed soon.
Ok, this should be working correctly now. btw I do not see Periodical Issue in any of the editions, but Periodical Title is there.
