BUG: Adding new credits - FIXED

Partial match prevents the “+ Create new” option from appearing.

  1. Using the Add edition form
  2. I was attempting to add a new Imprint titles “The Library Association”
  3. Dialog displays “London & Home Counties Branch of the Library Association”, but doesn’t provide an option to add a credit for the substring.

I have worked around this issue for now by adding extra characters to prevent the substring-match, and editing the credit after creation.

Okay this is fixed. Thanks for reporting it.

I’ll need to think more about how to handle different credits with the same name. Because as of now, Create New disappears when there is an exact match in the search. What if you wanted to add a credit for a different person/company with the same name?

Some of the data shows that we previously followed the discogs approach.

For instance we have Oxford as a place used for About/Subject credits, and Oxford (2) used for the Imprint

I have always found the discogs approach a bit clunky. It should be possible to deal with this sort of thing with appropriate UI design.

Personally, I would find the wiki approach of having titles like Oxford [City, UK] and Oxford [Imprint] more useful, but I recall everyone was in favour of the discogs approach last time it was discussed. Not to say it couldn’t be discussed again.

I agree I don’t like the (2) method and will try to have something better than that.

One method that I favor would be similar to the system Wikipedia uses.

They have a “Short description” field that is on the edit page. For Oxford, this is “City and district in Oxfordshire, England”

When typing into the search field it shows a list each with the short description under the search term. For example:

Oxford
City and district in Oxfordshire, England

University of Oxford
Collegiate research university in England

I believe this would be an elegant solution as well as a functional one.
