And if so, do we use our ANV-like function to remove the suffix from… the title shown on the Book page? The titles shown on the Edition pages?
On discogs we’re not allowed to use an ANV to remove a suffix, although I think the only real reason for that is that discogs is too used to doing it that way, and folks would get confused if they see two credits that seem the same, but are different pages. I don’t know if perhaps we want to allow it from the start? since we ain’t an 'ogs no more!
Is there another mechanism in the works for representing this sort of thing?
Why not use Midnight Rogue on the ones you added? I think with displaying the author and cover photo it should be enough for people to differentiate them.
I think Discogs uses the “(2)” convention because artist and label names must be globally unique. Not here though.
That works for me. Although, the submit/create form would need to handle it. I couldn’t create the new Book with the same name from the one previously entered Edition. I can change it now, after the fact, but it wouldn’t let me create a new Book unless it had a different name.
I think I see the problem. You were adding an Edition and when trying to link to the book could not create a new one because it already found an exact match of a different book. Is that right?
Correct, although the Edition was already added, it just had no Book attached. I was trying to attach/create the Book, but since there was already another with the exact title, it wouldn’t let me do anything but select it or pick another title.
